JOB TITLE:               Field Technician

DEPARTMENT:         Outside Plant

REPORTS TO:          Director of OSP & Service Delivery

SUPERVISES:          None

JOB SUMMARY:

Communicates with customers to properly analyze and repair communication lines and equipment; repairs multi-station gain equipment; installs and repairs fiber and DSL service.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicates with customers to properly analyze and repair the customer’s communications lines and/or equipment.
  • Researches, prepares, layouts, and performs work needed with new construction.  This includes wiring in the central office for transfers, creating detailed records of fieldwork, and turning these records in for plant record updating.
  • Installs and repairs data services for customers including outside plant portion of NGDLC equipment; DSL testing, installation, and repair at the customer’s premises; and installs ethernet card in customer’s computer.
  • Performs strand mapping and pole audits for plant engineer.
  • Fiber to the home installations.
  • Locates cables for “NY Dig Safely” requests.  Responsible for documenting all records.
  • Understands and performs the necessary functions for information retrieval in the MS Access, Excel, GTD5, and all other programs used in the department.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the operation and testing of all custom calling features.
  • Ensures that vehicles/equipment are properly maintained.  Follows prescribed work and work zone safety policies.
  • Other related duties as assigned including assist C.O. group, line crew relief, flagging, routine maintenance, etc.
  • Knowledge of home routers and Wi-Fi technology.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED EDUCATION:

High school diploma required;

Two-year technical degree preferred;

One-year related experience or training in telecommunications, electronics, or computer science preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

This position requires a very high level of physicality and the successful candidate must enjoy working outside.

  • Ability to climb a utility pole using climbers and safety equipment

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs all types of jobs related to outside plant construction and maintenance.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                                                                                   

  • Places, and buries, new strand and copper/fiber.
  • Sets new poles, anchors, and guys.
  • Performs maintenance to repair poles and lines.
  • Maintains and cleans trucks and truck garages.
  • Performs duties of Lineman for “On-call” rotation.
  • Trims Trees.
  • Places new x-boxes and cabinets for DCM’s, CM8X’s, SLC-2000’s, etc.
  • Installs terminals and drop on new construction.
  • Keeps truck stock with materials needed for daily work and emergency repairs. Performs other duties such as maintains safe work zones with signs, flagging, helping in the layout of new construction, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Ability to read and understand construction drawings

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Pole climbing experience and ability to climb poles with proper safety equipment

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid NYS Driver’s License, CDL, D.O.T. Certified

JOB TITLE:                 NOC Specialist

JOB SUMMARY:

The NOC Specialist will be accountable for leading the technical support for all trouble tickets, service orders, monitoring customer and internal networks, and supporting new products. The NOC Specialist will be actively involved in the day-to-day operation of the technical support for the company.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:   Customers, Vendors, Consultants, Other Carriers, municipalities, and pole owners

JOB SUMMARY:

The Outside Plant Design Engineer will be accountable for Outside Plant fiber design of an expanding fiber network. The employee will be involved with day to day decision making of fiber network design and customer connections.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Selects routing of lines and equipment required projects.
  • Prepares detailed construction and installation drawings, estimates equipment, labor, and material costs.
  • Initiates work authorization request and submits request with substantiating drawings and documents to management for approval.
  • Orders materials and equipment required and directs work activities to make sure they conform to engineering specifications.
  • Coordinate access to inside building wiring and inside conduct for cabling, as required.
  • Engineer the fiber and copper cable network for the specific building, including all inside wiring design, and outside plant design.
  • Coordinate with cable engineering and technical management on construction and service functions.
  • Perform site surveys to provide pre-sale cost estimates for servicing a specific building.
  • Complete Pole applications
  • Prepare all permit applications including NYS DOT, county, local or railroad.
  • Manage plant assignments in mapping system
  • Drawn new plant assignments and construction drawings in mapping system

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3 years telecommunications experience
  • OSP Engineering experience preferred

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Understanding of telecommunications industry;
  • Knowledge of accepted engineering practices;
  • Knowledge of aerial and buried cable placement and splicing methods, copper and fiber;
  • Knowledge of feeder and distribution cable design;

JOB SUMMARY:

This is an advanced technical position with a large focus on real-world plant design. Candidate needs to be an expert user of Mapcom, M4 Solutions and Microsoft Access.  Collaborates with Network & OSP Engineers and M4 Administrators, aids in giving direction to CAD Specialists. Responsibilities include plant design & count-distribution, physical network layouts, and engineering of physical, lit/dark fiber circuits.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engineering & scheduling of detailed, fiber plant maintenances
  • Design of Place of Presence (PoP) and Central Office (CO) rack layouts for passive equipment
  • Per-market design of physical GPON network distribution
  • Design of complex/extensive physical circuits, lit & dark
  • Collaboration with M4 System Administrators for best-option data entry practices
  • Work with OSP Engineers to ensure best-option construction
    • Generation and release of plant orders to company and contractors
    • Maintain M4 Solutions database for record keeping
    • Filing of pole-attachment applications
    • CAD renderings of OSP Engineers’ drawings
    • Assisting Accounting Department with tax-related information

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Works with CAD Specialists and M4 Administrators, answering and directing questions appropriately
• Performs related work as required

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

  • BS degree preferred in Telecommunications, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field, plus one (1) year related experience

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is accountable for day to day customer service interactions with OTTC customers. Customer Service at OTTC is a progressive work group providing many services to internal and external customers including phone/e-mail/chat support, reporting, and other duties. Customer Service at OTTC is closely aligned with sales and operations.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for providing customer service for all customers (commercial and consumer)
  • Carrier Services component of the customer service department to include:
    • Local number portability
  • Monthly sales goal and quota
  • Outbound calling campaigns occasionally to help boost incoming revenue for the company
  • Customer Billing
  • Sales/transitions and other revenue generating activities within the department
  • Provisioning within voice and internet delivery platforms as required
  • Very strong telecommunications skills, must be able to balance multiple, complex and time sensitive duties all at the same time
