Phelps, NY, January 28, 2019 – Ontario Trumansburg Telephone Companies (OTTC) announced today it has expanded the reach of fiber optic internet-based services in and around Ovid, NY using the FlexNAP™ system from Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW), one of the world’s leading innovators in materials science. OTTC, which has provided innovative communications solutions since 1920, is the first independent telephone company in Upstate New York to connect customers with the FlexNAP system, an easy-to-deploy solution that allows for faster, more reliable fiber installation to homes and businesses.
“This innovation from Corning has transformed the way we install fiber optic cable, “said Paul H. Griswold, president and CEO of OTTC. “We have already connected Clifton Springs using the FlexNAP system, and we found that it gave us optimal flexibility when it comes to servicing businesses as well as providing residential and wireless services.”
Corning’s FlexNAP system allows installers to “tap into” existing fiber cabling to easily connect homes and businesses in a process similar to plugging a lamp into an electrical outlet. This plug-and-play solution is more cost-effective and saves time compared to the traditional method of cutting into fiber optic cable and fusion splicing fibers at every connection point.
For residential OTTC customers, this means more efficient fiber-to-the-home installation and faster internet speeds. OTTC has completed its Upstate New York deployment of the FlexNAP system in Clifton Springs and plans to connect Trumansburg, Ovid, and Interlaken in 2019.
